" The result is a sophisticated sleeveless frock with a scarf at the neckline tied into a bow, a full A-line skirt that falls from a slightly blouson bodice. It is done in rich violet. In a few days, Pitkanen has to mail the realized version of the dress for final judging. "I'm pretty surprised. It really does look like my dress. " Pitkanen's and other finalists' dresses will be scrutinized by an esteemed panel of judges, which includes fashion designers Monique Lhuillier and Adam Lippes; celebrity stylist, House of Dereon designer and motherr of music superstar Beyonce Tina Knowles; and Lord Taylor buyer Vanessa Lefebvre. Cernek said the dresses will be judged on creativity, originality, style and functionality. The winner will be announced in mid-April. Prizes include a trip to New York, a $500 Lord Taylor gift certificate and opportunity to be an "Apprentice Designer for a Day" with Lippes. After the competition, the dresses will be auctioned on eBay, with proceeds going to Dress for Success, an organization that provides interview suits and career-development advice to low-income women.
