Restoring a Home Built in the 1860's
The pictures above are all from a project in Portland Maine completed recently. Ted and Tammie's 3-story home originally built in the 1860's was a carpenter and painter's delight... and challenge. They bought the grand old home because of the craftsmanship that went into the ornate wood work and the beautiful stained glass. The challenge for them was that it had been converted into apartments and they wanted it to be a one-family home again. I had the opportunity to help them with more of the final detail work: making new wood look old with stain and sealer, repairing cracked ceilings, installing trim, installing the master bath vanity, mirrors and lights, shelves in the pantry and more.
This was a delight and joy to visualize myself working alongside craftsmen doing this work 150 years ago. How they did what they did without the tools and stains and equipment we have now is truly something to marvel at and contemplate on..
I think the original owner would be poud of what they have accomplished. |
